Ways to contribute

Robert Feddersen Family Account

An account has been set up for Robert's family so we can show our kindness and support.
The account has been set up so funds will only directly go the family and no one else.

I would encourage all of us to support Robert's very young family of Jill, Liam, and little Alex Feddersen.

There are 2 ways to contribute.

1. Put a check in an envelope with a note, and send it to Robert's mailing address

Gathering memories

To all -

Thanks for all of the support and offers to help. For now, until there are more arrangements made, I was thinking that if people want to share memories, pictures, etc. on this site that would be great. We plan on compiling the messages and leaving them with the family in a permanent printed form.

Shane

A Husband, Father, Son, Brother, Teacher, Mentor, and Friend

A big thanks to the VVC and FF Cobra communities. Robert's family and friends all appreciate the outpouring of support.

It is with much sadness and deepest sympathy that we announce the passing of Robert Feddersen. Robert passed from this life into the next at around 3:00p.m. on June 12th, 2008. Robert was a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, teacher, mentor, and friend. He is survived by his wife Jill, and his 2 boys: Liam (8), and Alex (1 1/2). He passed away without pain and we are pretty sure no knowledge of his accident. We would like to thank all that have extended their support to the Feddersen family during this whole ordeal.

We will have further announcements regarding services and other ways to express your condolences posted on this blog in the near future.

Update

9:05a.m.

So that what looks inevitable will not take anyone by surprise, I need to give you all the information. Robert took a turn for the worst last night and it does not look good at all. The doctors have done all they can and his vital functions (reflexes and electrolytes) are not responding. There is one final test that needs to be performed to confirm whether there is any brain activity. We are now in the process of waiting for the details to work out regarding this test, and it does not look hopeful. We are hoping for a miracle, but if Jesus wants him home, there is nothing we can do about it. I will update again when we know more.

Roller coaster day

11:30p.m.

It's been a rough day for everybody, the doctor did not give much hope as he was deteriorating fast. He is on full life support and the doctors were using medication to regulate his heart beat. By the end of the day, his heart was beating without medication, and his ICP was a little lower. It's a glimmer of hope, but hey, I'll take any glimmer. It has been touch and go the whole day, the pressure is still high on his cranium and they are having a challenge with maintaining his electrolyte levels (an automatic brain function) It is still very critical, but thank God, he is still alive. I have been saying that it is not over until it's over. He wasn't supposed to survive the surgery, but he did.
Hoping for the best.

What happened?

On the 9th at around 2:30p.m., Robert sustained a very serious head injury as a result of a malfunctioning compound bow. Somehow a piece of the bow (about a 14" rod) went through both sides of his head. It is a very serious injury and the doctors are, so far, not optimistic. The family had to make a decision to either leave the rod in place which would have mean't very little chance for Robert's survival, or operate and remove it which mean't he would have the chance of severe hemorrhaging. It was not an easy decision to say the least, but the family opted for surgery. He survived the surgery, and is now in the neuro-surgery intensive care unit down at Loma Linda. He is unconscious and the doctors are trying to control the brain swelling (called Inner Cranial Pressure ICP). So far it has not been looking good, the pressure in the skull is very high. I have been in regular contact with the family since Robert has been there and they are coping as best they can. Please pray for Robert, Robert's wife (Jill), his children (Liam and Alex), his father (Bob), and his sister (Laurie). I will try to keep you informed about any future developments.
